The Compositing Supervisor is responsible for the management of the compositing team, the quality of the compositing work and the overview of colour continuity on the project. Working closely with the VFX Supervisor and Producer, the Compositing Supervisor communicates and delegates the compositing needs of the show to the team as well as represents the voice of the compositing crew with respect to workload and pipeline environment. The Compositing Supervisor manages both hands-on operation of a workstation as well as administration duties including mentoring artists and monitoring shot progress.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate and mentor our Compositing team to ensure all elements are complete and on time
  • Ensure that the quality of the work from the compositing team is of the highest of standards
  • Ensure proper work flow methodology for all artists – mentor the compositing team
  • Develop workflow and pipeline strategies, processes, methodologies, etc.
  • Provide ongoing information and feedback to the VFX Supervisor regarding issues in the Compositing department
  • Composite with Nuke
  • Complete or assist with shots
  • Assign shots to compositors and monitor shot progress
  • Assist in recruitment, reviewing reels and making recommendations
  • Liaise directly with VFX Supervisor / Producer
  • Assist Producer in scheduling
  • Colour timing and management of sequence continuity
  • Identifies problems and effectively implements solutions

Skills and Experience:

  • Expert knowledge of Nuke (5+ years)
  • 5 years experience in live action projects visual effects (Feature Film)
  • Strong understanding of tracking technologies, blue & green screen, roto, mattes and colour correction
  • High level experience in Compositing
  • Experience in a supervisory role where leadership qualities are demonstrated
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, colour and motion
  • Experience and knowledge of stereoscopic tools and methods desired
  • Time Management and organizational skills
  • Professional in all dealings with Production and crew
  • Team player who takes direction well
  • Dependable under pressure with attention to detail
